We invite you to [the second debate in the Promyslet Havla LIVE series](https://www.hrad.cz/cs/kultura-na-hrade/program/promyslet-havla-live-demokracie-a-budoucnost-evropy-1-13831?ref=alicekoubova.cz#from-list), organised by Prague Castle in cooperation with Český rozhlas Vltava. This debate will be devoted to the tension between individual life and human life within a system

**What motivates us to hold this debate:**

Havel's tension between the authentic life of the individual and the system of power — that is, between the intentions of life, which allow for creativity and openness, and the intentions of the system, which bureaucratically governs and constrains citizens in their lives — is formulated above all in the essay Moc bezmocných. Havel appeals to citizenship in the sense of the responsible action of the individual within civil society and of resistance to the “system”, which on the one hand ensures peace and quiet and on the other completely alienates a person from themselves. What kind of thinking does Havel draw on when he emphasises individual responsibility? Does this tension change in any way in the contemporary context? Is the social system the principal danger today, and why? Can there, in general, exist a system that protects citizens, individual rights and social institutions alike? What does such a system need, and what can we do for it?
