Alice Koubová is a Czech philosopher working at the intersection of philosophy, art and the social sciences. She is based in the Department of Contemporary Continental Philosophy at the Institute of Philosophy of the Czech Academy of Sciences and at the Theatre Faculty of the Academy of Performing Arts (DAMU). Her work addresses resilience, performativity, relational ethics, embodiment and identity — the unifying theme is the question of a livable life. She originally studied mathematics, then philosophy and theatre disciplines at Charles University, in Geneva and in Paris, and gradually developed her own conception of performative philosophy. Over the past decade she has focused on the resilience of democratic societies — she led the Czech Academy of Sciences programme “A Resilient Society for the 21st Century” and the Systems of Resilience team within SYRI. She is the author of nine monographs and edited volumes.
